GLORIA’S GUMPTION

Sam Smith’s Miami-bound tour is serving major sound with a side order of spice.

Multi-Platinum, Grammy, BRIT, Golden Globe, and Oscar-winning artist/songwriter Sam Smith is set to embark on The Gloria tour this summer. Kicking the American leg of the concert on July 25th at Miami’s Kaseya Center, the British vocalist will be highlighting new material from their (artist’s preferred pronoun) latest album, Gloria. Unfettered and vibrant, Smith’s shimmering new pop opus is poised to be a highlight on the tour. “Everyone was petrified of that song,” Smith said about the album’s smash single ‘Unholy.’ “I lived inside that song for like two years.”

With over 35 million adjusted album sales, 250 million single sales, and billions of streams across their back catalog, the release of  Gloria has unveiled a new sound for London-born Smith. Where the world might have gotten accustomed to the velvety-voiced heartbreak of hits like ‘Stay With Me’ or the Bond theme ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ (which subsequently won Smith both a Golden Globe and an Oscar), the new tour promises a healthy dose of four-to-the-floor electronica. But make no mistake: you’ll still need to bring the tissues. Smith’s musical grip on their audience’s heartstrings has only tightened. That voice can still make you cry—but this time, be prepared to sweat, too.
